Most people have heard that “Every dollar you spend is a vote for the kind of world you want to live in.” I also say that “what you wear is a statement of what you believe in and how you want the world to be”.
When I heard that there is already enough clothing on this earth to clothe the next 6 generations, I knew it was time to put a determined effort to slow this market.

I think of myself as a product of the 70’s, past the social turbulence of the 60’s but still with the expectation of responsibility to the earth and humanity. One of my grandsons once asked me “what was it like in the hippy days, Grandma?” (Haha, at least he didn’t say dinosaur days) I told him it wasn’t about money & possessions, it was about people, nature & experiences. What you had in your head, not your pocket.
I first started shopping thrift stores and rummage sales as a child, with my mother, out of financial necessity. This continued on through the raising of my own children, along with the newer trend of garage sales. What I’ve noticed over the years is the ever-increasing amount of second-hand clothing. More than enough. Where was it all coming from? – fast fashion. Styles changing every season. Changes dramatic enough that it wasn’t easy to make minor modifications and still keep up with the times. Few people with the interest and skill to refashion or even do repairs what they already own. So, it was disposed of and new items purchased. This leads to more manufacturing, pollution, shipping, depleted resources, and more landfill space taken up with discards.
